Flood cover is now available

After numerous round table discussions between government bodies and the insurance industry flood cover is now more readily available for domestic home and contents insurance.  Some insurers have included on a no opt out basis and others are still giving clients the option, others are not charging for the extension but are imposing higher excesses in the event of flood claims.

Insurers have all adopted the Federal Government's definition of flood which is

"The covering of normally dry land by water that has escaped or been released from the normal confines of;

a) any lake, or any river, creek or other natural water course, whether or not altered or modified; or

b) any reservoir, canal or dam."
